About Carrie Cahill Mulligan

Park ranger turned fiber artist, out to change the world, one felt hat at a time.

Best Fiber Booth Display at the 2015 LNHC Fair

This August was my 10th year as a booth-holder at the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen’s Fair

It was quite a successful fair from a sales perspective… Only a handful of these hats returned home to my studio with me.

And for the first time ever, my little 10’x10′ booth won an award!

I’m grateful for the recognition. It’s a lot of work to put together a pleasant, functional sales space that showcases and complements my work.

But I’m even more grateful for the continued support of new and returning customers, who love my hats and make the work of my hands a part of their daily lives. Thank you!

Throwback Thursday: Good Times at the 2008 LNHC Fair

Each August, you’ll find amazing, beautiful, handmade crafts at the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen’s Fair: works of clay, blown glass, fiber art, jewelry in silver, jewelry in gold, fine woodwork and so much more.

What’s more, you can attend daily live craft demonstrations throughout the 10-day fair. You can even sign up for a workshop to create your own.

Besides being talented & lovely, these women were a joy to spend 10 days with!

Best of all, fair-goers have the chance to personally meet the makers & artisans themselves, ask questions & learn about their techniques, inspirations & personal stories.

It’s the wonderful craftsmen who make the League Fair such fun!

In my 11 years as a member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, without a doubt, it is the fine crafts folks who make this excellent fair as fun as it is.

This year, I’ll be in Tent 7, Booth 708. I hope you’ll join me and visit the Mount Sunapee Resort from August 2-10, 2014 for the 81st Annual Craftsmen’s Fair.

It’s Never Too Late…

Sometimes, against all odds, you get a do-over in life. A shot at an opportunity you never had, or maybe wouldn’t have been ready for anyway. I got just such a chance this year on the Dartmouth College Women’s Club Hockey Team.

My Dartmouth Women’s Club Hockey Jersey

Due to a dozen players studying abroad last fall (a quirky result of Dartmouth’s D-Plan), the Women’s Club Hockey team was reduced to 7 players. And, since Dartmouth’s Club Sports are open to students, faculty & staff, I’m eligible.

So, at 43 years old, I got my chance to play competitive hockey with women less than half my age in games against Harvard University, Endicott College (recap here), and the University of New Hampshire.

The highlight, though, was our away game against MIT in Boston.

With just 5 skaters (and a goalie), our club team boldly took on their full roster of 17 skaters (plus 2 goalies)… and TIED! We skated with NO SUBSTITUTES and found ourselves scoreless after 3 fifteen-minute periods.

We were delighted! …until the game went into overtime. (Overtime? Really??)

Five more minutes of intense effort, and still no one scored. When the final buzzer sounded, we celebrated the unlikely result, giddy with exhaustion.

See that scoreboard in the upper right? It says 0-0, baby!

It was the most improbable outcome in the most improbable game I have ever played. And I am so grateful I had the chance, grateful that these talented young women welcomed me on their team with open hearts.
