About Carrie Cahill Mulligan

Park ranger turned fiber artist, out to change the world, one felt hat at a time.

Harper’s Fancy Dragonfly Hat

[Last month, I got an email from one of my youngest customers, via her Dad, which I’m sharing here, with permission from both!]

“Harper wanted me to send you this picture of her in her favorite hat:”

Harper models her prized dragonfly felt hat.

“She is so sweet and protective of it she doesn’t like to wear it if it might get snowy or dirty (on the playground, for example).

This picture was taken on our way to a St. Patrick’s Day party last night (a suitably fancy affair, evidently).”

Thank you, Harper! I’m so glad you love your hat. And don’t worry if you get snow on it… That hat is tough as you, and can take any weather!

ArtWorks 2013: Dartmouth’s Creative Employees in the Year of the Arts

I love my day job at Dartmouth College. I love the energy and enthusiasm that permeates the campus. This year, in celebration of the Hopkins Center’s 50th anniversary, Dartmouth declared a Year of the Arts.

The ArtWorks banner hangs above the Hopkins Center entrance, celebrating the creative & artistic talents of over 70 Dartmouth College Employees in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Banners celebrating ArtWorks and 50 Years adorn the front of the Hopkins Center.

ArtWorks 2013 celebrates the creative & artistic talents of over 70 Dartmouth employees, the largest number yet. Each employee can submit up to 4 pieces.

I chose hats in white & pastels, which suit the transition from snow to Spring for me:

One of my 4 entries into the 2013 Artworks Exhibit at Dartmouth College: 2012 Hat #44--Frosty Paw of caribou antler buttons

2012 Hat #44: Paw Print of hand-cut caribou antler buttons and tiny metal seed beads.

One of my 4 entries into the 2013 Artworks Exhibit at Dartmouth College: 2012 Hat #18--Pink Dragonfly with semi-precious gems

2012 Hat #18: Pink Dragonfly, with jasper beads and hand-cut caribou antler button.

One of my 4 entries into the 2013 Artworks Exhibit at Dartmouth College: 2012 #38 -- Lapis Dragonfly

2012 Hat #44: Dragonfly with lapis lazuli and agate beads.

One of my 4 entries into the 2013 Artworks Exhibit at Dartmouth College: 2011 Hat #88--Pink Mandala of French Knots

2011 Hat #88: Pink Mandala of French Knots… yummmy!

All four of these hats are available for sale… Let me know if you’re ready to treat yourself!

Up, Up Deep Purple!

Tonight, my bottom-of-the-league hockey team, Deep Purple, has a round one playoff game versus the top team, the Red Devils.

Carrie Cahill Mulligan skates with team Deep Purple in the 2012 Campion Hockey League, near Hanover, NH.

Trying to get lower — hockey skating requires single leg strength & stability.

This is my 3rd winter playing in the CHL (Campion Hockey League), and I won’t lie. With our 1-19-1 record, it’s been a character-building year.

We’re an expansion team, made up entirely of folks who’d never played together before. Ever. Some players had only a year or 2 experience as adult beginners before signing up.

There were some ugly losses early on. Ugly.

Carrie Cahill Mulligan of team Deep Purple squares off against Rob Callow of the Screaming Eagles, Campion Hockey League (CHL), Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Keep your head up to read the play & try to anticipate your opponent’s moves.

But, as the season progressed, so did we. Games got much closer as players got more confident and put more pucks on net.

Hockey is a funny game. Sometimes you get a lucky bounce. Hard work can beat talent, if talent doesn’t work hard.

Carrie Cahill Mulligan of team Deep Purple rushes the net to support the puck in the 2013 Campion Hockey League, near Hanover, New Hampshire.

Rushing the net without the puck supports the play and helps generate secondary scoring chances. (Keep your stick on the ice, though.)

Would I bet money on my #8 team tonight? Maybe not.

But I wouldn’t bet against us, either. You just never know. Hockey is a funny game.
